Constructed with a single pedestal, it was designed to be freestanding in the centre of a room. The bureau roof comprises a wooden gallery, with a hinged oak fall below, supported by the original pair of brass stays, which support the writing surface when in use. The fall also retains its original brass working lever lock (with key) to allow you to lock the desk interior when not in use. The interior comprises of four internal drawers, including two smaller drawers disguised as trim, flanked by useful 12 pigeon holes and a useful recessed pen well below. The two main internal drawers retain the original brass label holders. While the original labels haven’t survived, a brand-new set has been faithfully reproduced to fit the label holders (see photos). The new labels feature multiple options, to best suit the user’s needs. If further labels are required, including new category names, these can be produced for no additional cost. The desk stands on a single large pedestal, which incorporate a pull-out slide and bank of four graduated drawers. The slide is useful for placing paperwork on and the drawers provide plenty of storage space. The drawers are constructed with dovetailed joints and retain the original oak cup handles.

Condition Report:
Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering its age. The desk has been cleaned and professionally French polished by hand in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. There are no ink or water stains or scratches to the main desktop (which is common on these types of desks). There are old use marks to the fall working surface, pull-out slide and insides of the drawers (see photos) but nothing significant considering its age. The fall retains the original working lock with key. The desk boasts all its original internal brass label holders and oak handles. While none of the original labels survive, an updated, extended set of labels has been produced to fit the label holders; these are brand new and free from damage. Additional labels, including ones with new category names, can be supplied at no extra cost. This item is well made, solid in joint and ready to use.
