Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A stage-back sideboard is a distinctive regional variant of dining room furniture developed predominantly in late 18th and early 19th-century Scotland. It features an elevated rear tier or gallery section above the main counter, often fitted with sliding tambour shutters or small drawers to provide extra presentation and storage space.

These sideboards were primarily constructed from solid mahogany and decorated with high-grade flame mahogany or crossbanded veneers. Secondary woods inside drawers and back panels usually consisted of native pine, oak, or poplar, complemented by brass keyhole escutcheons and cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, original oak or pine drawer linings, and genuine tambour sliding track mechanisms. The proportioning often includes deep cellarette drawers designed for wine bottles alongside elegant turned or reeded legs characteristic of Georgian and Regency cabinetry.

Position the piece in a dining room, grand foyer, or wide corridor to function as a focal point. Balance the strong architectural silhouette of the upper stage by pairing it with large contemporary artwork, minimalist table lamps, or classic silver serving pieces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Position the sideboard away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent the timber from warping or the veneers from lifting.
