Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The George II style, prevalent during the mid-18th century in Britain, is characterised by robust proportions, the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary wood, and the incorporation of early rococo influences and classical architectural details.

These desks are traditionally constructed from solid timber and veneers, primarily mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, oak drawer linings, and cast brass hardware such as swing handles and escutcheons.

Authentication relies on examining timber shrinkage, hand-forged or early cast iron and brass fixings, tool marks consistent with period hand-working methods, and structural construction details such as pegged joints and hand-cut dovetailing.

An antique desk can serve as a functional writing table or focal point in a contemporary study or living room, pairing well with minimalist modern seating or contrasting textures to highlight its historical craftsmanship.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, keeping the timber out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the polished surface while avoiding modern silicone-based polishes.
