This gorgeous ANTIQUE BLUE & WHITE SERVING PLATE dates from circa 1830.

It was made by jOHN MEIR at GREENGATES POTTERY, TUNSTALL (1812-1836), with their signature Crown, Acorn and Oak Leaf Border.

The PLATE shows a view of GORHAMBURY, HERTFORDSHIRE and is marked as such in a printed cartouche on the back.

The condition is good. There are no cracks, chips or restoration.

This Georgian serving plate takes the form of an earthenware platter finished with a glossy white glaze and blue transfer-printed decoration. The piece displays a transfer-printed landscape view of the Gorhambury estate in Hertfordshire featuring neoclassical buildings, figures on horseback and grazing sheep, framed by a scalloped rim and an intricate border of oak leaves and acorns. Manufactured around 1830 by John Meir at the Greengates Pottery in Tunstall, the platter measures 2 cm high, 43 cm wide and 33 cm deep. It functions effectively today as a display item on a sideboard top in an English country house interior.
