A Fine Large Animalier Art Deco Sculpture by Louis-albert Carvin Alsatian Dogs

1900 - 1920
Description

Extraordinary bronze sculpture of two German Shepherds, Alsatians. This is signed L. Carvin Circa: 1920. Statue is huge measuring 21 inches tall, by 16 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches deep. A Lovely two tone veined marble base and amazing detail. The artist, Louis Albert Carvin, 1875-1951 (French). Louis Albert Carvin was a French sculptor, born in 1875 and died in 1951. He was known primarily for his sculptures of animals. He worked in bronze and terracotta. This extraordinary sculpture of two German Shepherds are old style, usually called Alsatians. Signed L. Carvin and with a stamped foundry mark. The term 'Alsatian' originated in Western Europe after the war, since anything 'German' was not looked on favourably by England, France, etc. The English, to this day, call German Shepherds 'Alsatians.' The original 'style' of the breed was strictly a 'form followed function' style. Through the years since the breed was established in 1899, there have been changes in the conformation of the dog, although it still is a wonderful breed from which to select working dogs. The condition is very good well cherished and ready for immediate display.
