Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Post-war French oil paintings from the mid-20th century frequently display a shift toward stylized realism and modern abstraction. Artists associated with the School of Paris during this era emphasized textured impasto, structured architectural compositions, and muted colour palettes.

Mid-century artists typically worked with heavy oil pigments applied directly onto stretched linen or cotton canvas using brushes and palette knives. Wooden stretcher bars held the fabric taut, and paintings were often finished with a protective varnish coat.

Authenticity is verified by examining the reverse of the canvas for age-appropriate wear, period stretcher keys, framing hardware, and maker stamps or gallery labels. Front artist signatures, paint craquelure patterns, and consistent surface oxidation also support period provenance.

A mid-century oil painting functions effectively as a focal artwork when hung above a low-profile credenza, sideboard, or fireplace mantel. Complement the painting with clean-lined mid-century walnut or teak furniture, textured rugs, and minimal wall accessories to let the artwork predominate.

Keep oil paintings away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity fluctuations, and direct heat sources to prevent pigment fading and canvas warping. Gently remove surface dust using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and consult a professional art conservator for specialized cleaning or varnish restoration.
