Description

A superb quality early 19th Century Chinoiserie Bonheur Du Jour, the top section profusely decorated at the front and having oval panels depicting a oriental countryside scene, as is with the sides of the cabinet, the doors opening to reveal a selection of drawers and compartments, there is a central cupboard and something that is very unusual there is a picture frame in the centre of the small door, the writing part has a lift off lid concealing compartments and a pen tray, it also has two flaps revealing a writing surface which also lifts up to reveal another larger compartment, also on the right hand of the top section there is a secret drawer, supported on cabriole legs with ball and claw feet. The Chinoiserie decoration is very finely done with just a small amount of wear. It is worth noting that the piece comes apart in three sections which makes it easy to place in a home / premises. Circa 1820.
