This is an antique study of a curlew. An Oriental, bronze and mahogany decorative small bird, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1900.

Turn-of-the-century Oriental bronze bird sculptures are distinguished by naturalistic anatomy, detailed feather rendering, and fluid poses capturing bird movement. Influenced by Japanese Meiji craft and Chinese metalwork, these pieces were often mounted on custom carved hardwood bases.
