Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English George II figured walnut veneer bureau desk, circa 1730, displaying a lovely mellow colour and patination, in excellent condition. The bureau is in excellent working order, boasting stunning book matched veneers, a cross-banded figured walnut fall, with fine satinwood feather banding. The bureau retains the original oak lined waterfall interior of seven small drawers with brass knobs, below nine pigeonhole slots. The fall is supported by the original two pull-out slides, with small brass knobs. Below the fall is a bank of five graduated feather banded inlaid drawers in a two-over-three configuration. The drawers are oak lined, hand dovetailed and feature fine quality old period replacement swan neck brass handles and escutcheons. The fall and the drawers also each boast their original working locks, with working key. The bureau retains its original backboards and is raised on a moulded plinth, which stands on the bracket feet, which have been restored at some point in the past.

Condition Report:
This Georgian walnut bureau is in excellent overall condition, considering its age. Nominal old use marks to the top, leading edges, fall, interior and inside of drawers, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The bureau has been French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshops. The fall opens easily and there are no warps to it, which is common with these early Georgian bureaus. The original feather banding is all intact. The interior is clean and free from ink stains. The original brass fall hinges are in good working condition. The fall and drawers retain their original oak drawer linings, working locks, with working key. The drawers close flush to the frame and feature fine quality old period replacement swan neck brass handles and escutcheons. The bureau stands on bracket feet, which have been restored at some point in past (see photos). The bureau retains its original pine backboards. The bureau boasts a stunning mellow colour and patination. This Georgian bureau is solid in joint and ready to use.
