This tribal artifact is a real delight. The Shahsavan are an ancient nomadic tribe who migrated in north-west Persia and the Caucasus. They are known primarily known for their soumac technique utility weavings. However, this rare and beautiful pair of miniature bags is woven in the kilim technique, and was probably used as as a saddlebag It is complete, and includes the original intact back. The colours are lovely, all natural dyes, and this piece has been made with great care and skill. Note the beautiful bridge between the two separate bags.
