The bureau retains the original oak interior of six small string inlaid drawers with brass knobs, below six pigeonhole slots, as well as a locking central ‘cubby hole’ with cross banded and string inlaid burr walnut door. The fall, which boasts a green leather lining, is supported by two pull-out slides, with small brass handles. Below the fall is a bank of four graduated string inlaid drawers, which are oak lined, hand dovetailed and feature old period replacement swan neck brass handles and escutcheons. The fall and the drawers also each boast their original working locks, with working keys (one key operates the lock to the fall, while a second key operates the lock to the main drawers. A third key operates the lock to the cubby hole door). The bureau retains its original backboards and is raised on a moulded plinth, which stands on its original bracket feet.

Condition Report:
This Georgian walnut bureau is in excellent condition, considering its age. Nominal old use marks to the top, leading edges, fall, interior and inside of drawers, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The bureau has been French polished by hand in our workshops. The interior is clean and free from ink stains. The original hinges are in good condition. The fall and drawers retain their original oak drawer linings, working locks, with working keys. The drawers close flush to the frame and feature very good quality old period replacement swan neck brass handles and escutcheons. The bureau stands on its original bracket feet and retains its original backboards. The bureau boasts a stunning colour and patination. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
