Georgian Mahogany Bureau

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Christine Kavanagh Antiques

A Cuban mahogany bureau made around 1770. The fiddle-back veneers chosen have gained a beautiful patination. It resembles a burr figuring. The fall reveals a fitted interior with drawers, central inlaid cupboard and false book spines, leather writing surface. Ogre bracket feet and swan neck brasses retaining some original gilding. Oak lined drawers. The veneers on this bureau and its patination are outstanding. It changes colour depending what angle daylight reflects from the surface. I personally have not seen better. My cat ( who travels to the shop most days ) thought it was a good idea to explore it whilst I was busy photographing the drawer. She definitely does not come with the bureau, but it made us smile, so we decided to leave her included.
