Size: 9ft 10in x 4ft 11in (300 x 150cm).

Antique Persian tribal Qashqai kilim, South West Persia.

Circa 1900.

A good Qashqai kilim with a bold three compartment design, natural dye colours throughout. Each of the three compartments contains four small medallions. The borders are a particular feature of this kilim.

Excellent condition, very slight wear.

Hand washed and ready for use or display.

Qashqai kilims were traditionally handwoven by nomadic Qashqai tribespeople in southwestern Persia. Known for their vibrant geometric patterns and flatweave construction, these textiles reflected the weavers environment and tribal heritage.

These kilims are constructed from hand-spun wool, often sourced from local sheep, and dyed using natural plant and mineral pigments. They are produced using a slit-weave flatweave technique, resulting in a durable, double-sided textile with crisp color boundaries.

Authentic pieces feature natural dye variations known as abrash, hand-spun wool yarn with subtle irregularities, and characteristic geometric medallion or compartment layouts. The weave is tight yet flexible, showing slight asymmetry typical of portable tribal looms.
