Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th century, George III bowfront sideboards are defined by their gentle convex curved front, intended to maximize storage while softening the architectural lines of a room. They typically feature fine mahogany construction, satinwood or boxwood stringing, brass drop handles, and slender square tapered legs.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used solid and veneered mahogany, often selecting flame mahogany for drawer fronts to display rich figure. Secondary woods such as oak, pine, or deal were used for drawer linings and internal framing, complemented by cast brass handles and inlaid woods like satinwood.

Authentic pieces display evidence of period craftsmanship, including hand-sawn secondary timber, hand-cut dovetail joints, original iron locks, and natural uneven wear around keyholes and handles. The underside should show oxidation and age-appropriate shrinkage in the wood grain.

Position the sideboard as a focal anchor in a dining room, hallway, or open-plan living space. Balance the traditional mahogany timber by pairing it with contemporary artwork above, modern ceramic lamps, or minimalist decorative bowls.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timbers patination. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement, veneer lifting, and colour fading.
