Antique Georgian Mahogany Bureau Desk with Secret Compartments C1780 Wdb350/14.2

Description

Possible free delivery please enquire about this antique george 111 mahogany bureau desk dating from aorund 1780. It has a brass escutcheon to the fall front which opens to reveal a lovely stepped interior with central carved panel which is in fact a secret door with secret compartment above. Either side of this is a bookend secret drawer and with open compartments and stepped small drawers above which are carved frieze drawers. It has a brown leather writing surface which is possibly a victorian replacement. To the base there are two short drawers over three long drawers all of which are oak lined and with original brass handles and escutcheons. It is moulded to the base and stands on bracket feet.

In very good condition with a lovely deep colour and patination to the mahogany. There is a dark mark to the left of the fall front which has formed over many years where it has rested on the loper. However this does not detract in any way from this lovely bureau.

Measures: 43" high X knee height 30" X 21" deep X 42" wide
