Lady's Writing Desk or "Cheveret" After Gillows

Description

A charming late Victorian satinwood lady's WRITING TABLE (or "cheveret") after a design (and possibly by) Gillows.

In particularly fine original condition it is constructed of beautifully-figured satinwood, and comprises 2 separate sections. The upper one, with its large carrying handle and five small drawers, may be carried from room to room.

The lower section has a fitted drawer with a sliding leather-lined writing surface and a useful shaped shelf below. It is raised on elegant tapering legs terminating in original brass castors. 46ins high (to top of handle); 23ins (58.5cms) wide. ***Unusually, there is a "secret" drawer within this piece.
