This French Empire pedestal desk dates from 1900 and uses walnut and plum pudding mahogany in a rich dark brown colour. The rectangular top has a dark leather writing surface bordered by a gilt bronze band, set above a central frieze drawer decorated with an ormolu mount. Two pedestals support the top, each containing four crossbanded drawers fitted with small brass keyhole escutcheons and handles, raised on turned cylindrical feet. Signs of age appear as minor surface wear across the timber. The piece measures 76 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 90 cm deep with a kneehole measuring 64 cm high and 60 cm wide.
