Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English George III oak bureau desk, circa 1780, displaying a lovely mellow colour and patination, in excellent original condition. The bureau is in excellent working order and retains the original oak interior of eight small drawers with brass knobs, below six pigeonhole slots, as well as a central ‘cubby hole’. The fall is supported by two pull-out slides, with brass knobs. Below the fall is a bank of three graduated drawers, which are oak lined, hand dovetailed and feature the original swan neck brass handles and escutcheons. The fall and the drawers also each boast their original working locks, with working keys (one key operates the lock to the fall and bottom drawer, while a second key operates the lock to the upper two drawers). The bureau retains its original backboards and is raised on a moulded plinth, which stands on its original bracket feet.

Condition Report:
The bureau is in excellent condition, considering its age. Nominal old use marks to the top, leading edges, fall, interior and inside of drawers, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The bureau has been French polished in our workshops. The interior is clean and free from ink stains. The original hinges are in good condition. The fall and drawers retain their original working locks, with working keys. The drawers close flush to the frame and boast the original swan neck brass handles and escutcheons. The bureau stands on its original bracket feet and retains its original backboards. The bureau boasts a stunning colour and patination. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
