Description:

Here is a fine quality antique early primitive English George II oak bureau desk, circa 1740, displaying a stunning colour and patination, in excellent condition. The bureau is in excellent working order and features a complete original oak interior of five small drawers with brass knobs, below six pigeonhole slots. The fall is supported by two pull-out slides, with brass knobs, and features a reading bar, to support books. Below the fall is a bank of five graduated drawers in a two-over-three configuration. The drawers are elm lined, hand dovetailed and feature later top-quality Georgian brass handles and escutcheons. The fall and the drawers also each boast their original working locks, with working key (the bottom drawer does not feature a working lock). The bureau stands on bracket feet and retains its original backboards.

Condition Report:

The bureau is in excellent condition, considering its age. Nominal old use marks to the top, leading edges, fall, interior and inside of drawers, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The interior is clean and free from ink stains. The hinges are in good condition. The fall and drawers retain their original working locks, with working key (the bottom drawer does not have a lock). The drawers close flush to the frame. The drawers feature later top-quality Georgian brass handles and escutcheons. The bureau stands on bracket feet and retains its original backboards. The bureau boasts a stunning colour and patination. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
