1920s Georgian Revival Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

1900 - 1920
Description

-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-

A good quality early 20th century mahogany bureau-bookcase, in the Georgian style.

c.1920.

A beautiful item, still very relevant for modern day use. The moulded cornice is over two glazed doors, which open to reveal three adjustable shelves, so gives lots of scope for size of books and storage. With the original working lock and key.

The bureau section has the original working lock and key, with a fall-front which opens to reveal a fitted interior, with an arrangement of two serpentine shaped drawers, with pigeon holes above, flanking a small central door fronted compartment, with a charming small working lock and key. Having an inset green faux leather writing surface. Over a chest of five graduating oak lined drawers, with fine dove-tail construction and the original locks and escutcheons. The handles are particularly lovely and unusual, which feature very pretty and ornate winged cherubs with birds.

Lovely patination and warmth to the mahogany, with rich figuring to the bureau front.

Standing on bracket feet.

The top section can be removed from the base section.

In excellent antique condition. Some marks and signs of age and use to the faux leather.

Very solid sturdy and strong.

The dimensions are taken at highest, widest and deepest points.

Height-204.5cm.

Width-90cm.

Depth-45.3cm.
