Small Georgian Mahogany Cylinder Bureau

18th century
Description

Super small size late 18th to early 19th century George III mahogany cylinder bureau. The bureau stands on square tapering legs with ebony stringing to the corners and ebony block feet to the bottoms with original brass castors. The Bureau has two full width drawers also with ebony string, the top one pulls out with the stunning burr yew-wood interior. The oval brass handles are contemporary period ones but are not original. The second drawer is all mahogany lined. Both have original locks.

The bureau interior is stunningly beautiful. The base acts as the top of the drawer and slides back to gain access to the drawer beneath and has a flush adjustable leather insert reading stand. The interior has 6 small drawers, all veneered in the best burr yew-wood with dainty turned ebony knobs, the drawers are all mahogany lined. There are also four pigeon holes with shaped aprons above also in burr yew-wood.

The desk is a lovely original mellow colour with good patination. One or two minor repairs required mainly ebony stringing and drawer runners.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
