This life-size Edwardian carved wood sculpture depicts an Anglo-Indian cricketer in a standing pose, measuring 167 cm high, 67 cm wide, and 11 cm deep. The folk art figure wears a wide-brim hat, a buttoned shirt, and trousers, finished in an ochre yellow hand-painted polychrome glaze with a striped tie worn as a belt around the waist. His left hand rests on his hip, while his right hand holds a carved cricket ball, and the piece features a flat back. Signs of age include stable yet aged surface wear on the paintwork across the entire timber body. This decorative antique suit is suited for placement in an empty corner of a gentleman's library or hallway.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, carved wooden figures were commissioned as club emblems, shop displays, or promotional trade figures to represent sports such as cricket and golf.

These sculptures were typically hand-carved from dense hardwoods or softwoods, assembled in sections, and finished with oil-based polychrome paint or gesso layers.

Authentic examples exhibit natural paint loss, craquelure, authentic surface patination, and evidence of hand-tooling or traditional joinery techniques.

A life-size figure serves as a focal point in hallways, study areas, or empty alcoves, pairing well with traditional wooden panelling, leather seating, or eclectic gallery displays.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush, avoid moisture or harsh chemical solvents, and maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct heat sources to prevent timber warping or flaking paint.
