Good C19th Grand Tour Bronze Warwick Vase, of large proportions; the rim with an egg and dart border above trailing vine leaves and the classical masks below cast in high relief; the handles to either side being entwined vine branches, with acanthus leaves to the underside of the bowl on a moulded waisted socle and a square plinth.

A fine quality casting with a good rich patination.

French circa 1860

The design originates from an ancient Roman marble vase discovered in 1771 at Hadrians Villa in Tivoli. During the nineteenth century, bronze cast reductions of the vase became celebrated Grand Tour souvenirs acquired by wealthy European travellers.
