Description

An attractive Edwardian mahogany Sheraton revival inlaid bureau bookcase of small proportions. The bookcase having a swan neck pediment with foliage inlay in boxwood and green stained woods with a square satinwood and inlaid centre, the moulded cornice having alternate satinwood and mahogany banding with a satinwood and inlaid frieze below. The rectangular doors having unusual oval glazed centres with boxwood oval outline inlay and satinwood banding to the door frames. The bureau fall having a large satinwood oval and edged with further satinwood banding between boxwood and ebony lines. The satinwood banding continues around all 4 graduated drawers which are inlaid with harebell swags, tied ribbons and foliage in various stained woods. The handles are brass ring pulls and the bureau benefits from having working locks and keys. The bureau interior consists of 2 banks of 3 graduated satinwood drawers, each with turned ivory pulls and 3 satinwood shaped pigeon holes and brown leather writing surface. The bookcase interior having adjustable mahogany shelves and working lock and key.
