A Fine Chippendale Period Mahogany Bureau-bookcase

18th century
Description

A most impressive and fine quality mid-18th century BUREAU BOOKCASE dating from around 1765-1775 and of good warm colour.

The upper bookcase top is surmounted by a pierced and carved "architectural" pediment, above twin astragal-glazed doors. Thee open to reveal four adjustable shelves within. The lower section features a well-fitted bureau with 6 pigeonholes; 6 small drawers and 2 "secret" drawers flanking the central cupboard. Further below are four long graduated drawers, all with oak linings.

Good original cast brass and gilded handles, and all locks bolts, hinges etc are completely original. throughout. A particularly fine and impressive example. 42ins wide; max: 94ins high (107 x 239cms)
