A Rare Anglo Chinese Export Hua Li Bureau C 1780

Description

A rare Anglo Chinese Export Hua Li or indigenous rosewood Bureau c 1780 made in Canton for the English market retaining its original lacquered brass rococo brass ware and side carrying handles. The great weight of this piece is due to all the drawer lings being constructed from the same dense rosewood which is much darker from lack of exposure from the sunlight.

Similar examples of this type of furniture are illustrated in Carl L Crossman. The Decorative Arts of the China Trade. Published July 1991.
