Bureau Fine George III Mahogany and Inlaid Decorative Bureau C1780

18th century
Description

Here we have a truly exceptional George III Mahogany and inlaid bureau c1780. As you can see the bureau has a wonderful rich colour and patina. The bureau is as good as it gets for the period and has all the features you would expect from such a high quality piece. The top has a Satinwood crossbanded edge with an Ebony strung border adjacent to a Boxwood string. Inside this there is another strung inlay with concave cantered corners. This decoration is replicated on the fall front and all the drawers fronts. The use of Satinwood as a crossbanding at this period would suggest a high quality piece of furniture. This is also made apparent by the stunning Sheraton inlay to the fall front which again is typical of the period and perfectly executed. The interior is by no means a let down either as some can be. There are long and short drawers each Oak lined and bearing their original brass pulls. There is a central door with a decorative fielded panel and strung decoration. The door has the original lock as does the fall front which is working and there are keys for both. The central internal door is flanked by two secret pillared drawers again Oak lined. Below the fall front are four long Oak lined drawers each retaining their original fancy handles which are stunning. The bureau has solid Mahogany sides and sits on its original and delicious bracket feet. A breathtaking period bureau in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The diemnsions are approx 42 inches wide 39.5 high and 20 deep.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
