Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1900s.
It has a moulded cornice above two astragal glazed doors displaying the original bevelled glass and key with working lock. Once opened the doors reveal three adjustable shelves. The bureau has a moulded fall front with a strikingly figured flamed mahogany central panel, key and working lock. The interior retains the original tooled leather writing insert and also benefits from several pigeon holes, letter racks, pen holders and four small drawers with the original brass handles. The lower section has a two over three graduating drawer configuration. All the drawers having working locks, cock beading and displaying the original brass swan neck handles. The piece as a whole stands on shaped bracket feet and still retains the original back boards. It splits into two sections, aiding transportation, and is a rich medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
