Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1900s.
It has a moulded cornice above two astragal glazed doors with key and working lock while the interior has three adjustable shelves. The fall front has a moulded edge and is beautifully cross banded in satinwood. The interior of the bureau has the original green leather writing insert, pigeon holes, several compartments and two small drawers. The base consists of four graduating oak lined drawers with original brass handles, the whole piece stands on shaped bracket feet. All the edges are delightfully cross banded in satinwood along with boxwood and ebony string inlay. The bookcase splits into two for ease of removal and the mahogany is a warm medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
