Dating from around 1900 in the Edwardian period this antique figured walnut bureau bookcase is of superb quality and is in the Dutch Queen Anne design. It is constructed from the finest quality timbers and due to the level of craftsmanship it looks to be a much earlier piece. It has an arched moulded top above a glazed door with moulded edge and key with working lock. The interior has three removable shelves. The lower section has a beautifully figured fall front which when opened reveals many surprises! At first glance the eye is drawn to the several oak lined drawers and pigeon holes. On further inspection the disguised bible well becomes more visible followed by the several hidden drawers which are only found after careful investigation. Below the fall front there is a single faux drawer above three oak lined drawers with original brass handles and key escutcheons. This beautiful quality antique bureau bookcase stands on shaped bracket feet and splits into two for ease of removal. The walnut is a gorgeous golden shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
