Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1900s.
It has a moulded cornice above two astragal glazed doors with key and working lock, the interior of which has two removable shelves. The fall front, also with working lock, opens to reveal the original leather writing surface and several letter racks. The lower section has two drawers over two cupboard doors with the original brass rococo style handles. The piece stands on ogee bracket feet and is finished with an unusual blind fretwork decoration. The dark walnut has a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
