Large Mahogany Georgian Antique Bureau

19th century
Description

Large Mahogany Georgian Antique Bureau

This antique mahogany bureau dates from the Georgian period, circa 1790, and has relatively large proportions. It consists of a moulded fall front which when opened reveals a green baize writing insert, several pigeon holes and small oak lined drawers with brass handles. In the centre can be found a small cupboard door which hides another small drawer along with two secret compartments! The lower section has a two over three drawer configuration, all displaying cock beading and the original brass swan neck handles. The bureau stands on shaped bracket feet, has later back boards and is full of charm and character as expected in a piece of this age. The mahogany is a medium warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
