Quality Georgian Oak Antique Bureau with Mahogany Cross Banding.

This beautiful oak bureau, dating from around 1780, is a fine quality piece of furniture from the Georgian period. It has a moulded fall front with mahogany cross banding, key and working lock. Once opened it reveals an interior that has a central cupboard door, beautifully inlaid with a shell decoration, hidden behind which is a small drawer. The remainder of the interior comprises several small drawers and letter racks. The lower section has four graduating drawers with original brass handles displaying an unusual thistle design. The bureau stands on shaped bracket feet and has aged to a lovely light to medium shade of oak with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
