Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
This quite unique offering dates from around 1800 in the Georgian period.
Today it provides plenty of storage opportunities for the home, not only for a living space but also a bedroom maybe? It would also make the ideal reception desk for a hotel, restaurant or other customer facing establishment. It has a moulded fall front decorated with beautiful mahogany cross banding around the edge. Once opened, the fall front reveals several small drawers and a central cupboard flanked by a secret slide on either side. The cupboard door comes complete with a key and working lock. The lower section has a two over three graduating drawer configuration. All the drawers having cock beading and period brass handles (most probably original). The sides of the piece have canted corners to the front which display delightful boxwood and ebony string inlay decoration. The bureau stands on shaped bracket feet and is a lovely warm golden shade of oak with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
