Bureau George II Figured Walnut Exceptional Stepped Interior C1740

Here we have an exceptional George II figured Walnut Bureau c1740. As you can see the bureau has super colour and patina. The top has quatered thick handcut Walnut veneers with a feather banded border and wide cross banded edge. The fall front has a super shell inlay to the center and spandrels to the corners and once again quartered veneers to the surround. The fall front opens to reveal a true masterpice of cabinet making. The concave stepped interior all with Oak lined drawers is breathtaking. The drawers have feather banding and figured Walnut veneered fronts with the shape carved from single pieces of Oak. There are two secret pillar drawers and a sliding shutter which reveals a well. There is a tooled and gilded leather skiver. The main drawers are all Oak lined and of course have chunky dovetailed joints. The drawer fronts have again quarter veneered figured Walnut fronts of outstanding colour. The handles have been replaced but are super quality and period. The original three pin working lock and key are also retained. This superb bureau is a great size being 38 inches wide 22 deep and 41 high. A wonderful period statement piece of English Walnut furniture ready for yor home.
