Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century amboyna cabinet bookcase is a specialized piece of case furniture featuring an upper glazed compartment for displaying books or decorative objects paired with lower drawers or cupboards. It is veneered in exotic amboyna wood, valued during the Victorian era for its dense burr figure and rich colour variations.

These cabinets feature thin veneers of exotic burr amboyna laid over a solid hardwood or pine carcase. The upper door contains original sheet or cylinder glass, while the lower drawers are built using hand-cut dovetail joints, solid oak or mahogany drawer linings, and traditional mortise-and-tenon framing.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural variations in the burr grain, evidence of hand-planed backboards, and hand-cut dovetails within the drawers. Locks and brass hardware typically show natural surface oxidisation, and the glass panels often present slight distortions characteristic of historic glass manufacturing.

Place the piece against a neutral wall to highlight the detailed wood grain, or integrate it into a contemporary study or living room. The glazed upper section serves to store curated ceramics or leather-bound volumes, while the lower drawers provide concealed storage.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent the burr veneer from drying out, checking, or lifting. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional applications of a high-grade beeswax paste will protect the French polish or original finish.
