An 18thc Walnut Bureau with Secret Drawers.

Description

A very decorative mid 18thC Geo II country made walnut writing bureau of good colour. Thick walnut veneers to the front over a pine carcass.Melow pine sides which have taken on the same patina as the rest of the piece. Very useable and a good looking example.The top, fall and drawer fronts all with boxwood stringing. The oak interior with drawers and pigeon holes. Two of the arches over the pigeon holes pull out with slim drawers and two of the smallest drawers have concealed pull out slides behind them.Central locking cupboard with paneled door and original brass escutcheon. The main front drawers have had a sucession of handles the shadows of which can be seen behind the current antiqued modern brass pulls with are of the correct design for the period of the piece.As with walnut pieces of this period it would be unusual if there were no evidence of woodworm. In this case the sides and feet have been attacked over the years and is now long dead, both have taken on a good patina. Original iron locks to the drawers.

91.5 cms (3 feet) wide at the top and 95 cms at the base. 51 cms deep and 98.5 cms high.
