This Victorian cylindrical planter is formed from polished brass with a warm gold colour and a reflective finish. The body features a pierced fretwork border of open lattice near the upper rim, a smooth central section with subtle engraved botanical decoration, and a moulded lower section supported by small round bun feet. A tall green palm with slender leaves and stalks stands planted inside the vessel. Suitable for placement on a deep window sill or inside a sunlit conservatory, the planter brings a traditional Victorian botanical accent to a home today. The practical proportions measure 20 cm in diameter by 22 cm in height, accommodating small houseplants and adding a metallic texture to interior plant displays.

During the nineteenth century, indoor horticulture grew increasingly popular across European households. Pierced brass cachepots and jardinieres were produced to hold terracotta pots, offering an ornamental decorative exterior that complemented formal interior schemes while protecting surfaces from moisture.

These vessels were typically crafted from sheet brass, formed into cylindrical or tapered shapes, and embellished using piercing, stamping, or repousse techniques. Seams were often brazed or soldered, and decorative borders were stamped out using mechanical presses or hand chisels.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit evidence of hand-finishing, visible rolled or brazed seams, and uneven oxidisation or patina within the crevices. They frequently feature weighted construction, period-appropriate cast brass feet, and signs of wear along the interior base from historic contact with moisture.

Place the planter on a deep window sill, sideboard, or mantelpiece filled with lush foliage such as ferns or palms. The warm tone of the brass provides natural contrast against contemporary muted walls, stone counters, or dark timber surfaces.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth. To maintain polished surfaces, apply a specialized brass polish sparingly, avoiding abrasive pads that could scratch the metal. Ensure an internal liner or drip tray is used to prevent water pooling directly against the base metal.
