Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

This large Edwardian wall plaque comes in the Art Nouveau style and consists of glazed earthenware ceramic with an iridescent turquoise blue lustre glaze. The round teal object displays high relief moulding depicting three cherubs riding sea creatures while holding a flowing overhead drape. The composition includes detailed waves beneath the figures and a hanging wire attached to the top rim. The piece measures 43 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Displaying this French plaque above a sideboard brings an ornamental decorative element to a dining room or living space. The ceramic surface catches light with its glossy finish, while the classical figural imagery adds traditional sculptural interest to interior walls.

FAQs

Late 19th-century French Art Nouveau ceramics often feature organic lines, classical allegorical figures, and metallic oxide iridescent glazes developed during the Belle Epoque period.

These decorative pieces were typically moulded from terracotta or earthenware clay, then coated in specialized metallic oxide lustre glazes and fired under reduced atmosphere conditions.

Authenticity is verified through maker marks stamped or incised into the reverse ceramic body, precise relief moulding details, physical weight, and glaze characteristics distinct to regional potteries.

A ceramic plaque can be mounted as a focal point above a cabinet, displayed on a plate stand atop a sideboard, or integrated into a curated gallery wall.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster, avoiding harsh liquid solvents, abrasive detergents, or prolonged immersion in water to preserve the glaze.
