This antique Persian tribal bag is a traditional Qashqa'i chanteh or vanity-bag made by the Darrehshuri sub-tribe of the Qashqa'i Confederacy in South-West Persia around 1900. Woven using wool with natural dyes, the piece displays a dark indigo blue ground decorated with intricate geometric diamond patterns in ivory and red, alongside a chevron border and braided ties at the top corners. The bag shows fringed edges on the sides and top, with visible wear to the yarn threads. Measuring 20 cm high by 18 cm wide, the bag fits well on a bookshelf or as a decorative accent in a living room, hallway or study.

A chanteh is a small, handwoven tribal pouch traditionally crafted by nomadic weaving communities in South-West Persia, such as the Qashqai, to hold small personal belongings, mirrors, or cosmetics.

These small textile bags are constructed from hand-spun wool yarns dyed with natural vegetable and mineral pigments, employing flatweave, kilim, or extra-weft brocading techniques.

Authentic examples feature pure hand-spun wool, natural dye variations known as abrash, tribal geometric iconography specific to the Fars region, and hand-braided wool handles or drawstrings.

Small tribal woven pouches can be displayed inside shadow-box frames on gallery walls, rested on decorative bookshelves, or placed on sideboard tops as tactile accent pieces.

Display wool textiles away from direct sunlight and moisture, dust gently with a soft vacuum attachment, and consult a specialist conservator for deep cleaning or stabilization.
