Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The kidney-shaped dressing table first gained popularity in Europe during the eighteenth century due to its ergonomic concave front, which allowed the user to sit closer to the mirror and drawers. The design was revisited and reproduced extensively during the early twentieth century, particularly during the 1920s, using fine timber veneers such as walnut and mahogany.

Dressing tables from the 1920s were typically constructed using solid hardwood frames topped with figured timber veneers, such as burr walnut, mahogany, or satinwood. Key hardware, including drawer pulls and mirror swivel mechanisms, was commonly cast from brass or iron, while original mirror plates featured bevelled glass.

Authentic 1920s pieces often exhibit Period-revival styles, such as Queen Anne or Georgian influences, featuring sweeping curved legs and hand-finished veneers. Drawer construction typically displays machine-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, and natural signs of timber age or light oxidisation on metal fittings.

Position the dressing table near a natural light source, such as a window, to maximise functional illumination for grooming. Integrate modern table lamps or contemporary decorative trays on the surface to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior elements.

Clean timber surfaces regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to preserve the veneer patina. Clean glass mirrors with a damp cloth, taking care not to allow moisture to seep behind the mirror frame where it could degrade the silvering backing.
