London City Antiques has dated this Victorian Burr Walnut Credenza to the 1850s.
This beautifully executed detail gives the piece a particularly elegant and sophisticated appearance, distinguishing it from the more commonly encountered straight-fronted Victorian credenzas.

The finely figured burr walnut is complemented by exquisite floral marquetry decoration across the frieze and upright supports. The central shaped panel features an attractive floral marquetry design against a contrasting dark background, framed by ornate gilt brass mouldings.

The two shaped glazed side doors are similarly framed with decorative gilt brass borders and open to reveal fitted interior shelves, providing attractive display space for porcelain, silver or other treasured collections. The central cupboard offers additional storage, while the beautifully shaped base is embellished with further decorative gilt brass mounts.

The exceptional craftsmanship is evident throughout, particularly in the complex serpentine construction, the quality of the veneers, the finely executed marquetry and the abundance of decorative brasswork.

A truly outstanding example of Victorian cabinetmaking, combining exceptional decorative appeal with practical storage and display. This magnificent antique credenza would make a superb statement piece in a drawing room, dining room, entrance hall or elegant interior.
