This Victorian banjo barometer is fashioned from solid oak with a warm brown polished finish, brass, glass, and porcelain dials. The slender case exhibits carved acanthus leaf motifs, scrollwork, and floral decoration at the top and base, alongside a turned brass bezel surrounding the lower circular aneroid dial and a vertical thermometer tube inset into the upper shaft. The piece measures 86.5 cm high, 25.5 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, making it suited for mounting on a narrow wall space in a hallway, study, or gentleman's library. It functions as a traditional weather indicator combining a mercury thermometer and a barometer with ornate script weather predictions written around the scale behind bevelled glass.

A banjo barometer is a wall-mounted meteorological instrument shaped in a distinct figure-eight outline, combining a lower atmospheric pressure dial with an upper thermometer scale.

Victorian barometers typically featured solid timber cases such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, decorated with hand-carved scrollwork, alongside brass bezels and calibrated glass tubes.

Authentic Victorian examples often feature printed or engraved maker signatures on the dial face, detailed hand-carved timber moulding, and original spirit or mercury glass thermometer components.

An antique oak barometer functions as a focal architectural accent when mounted in an entryway, alongside a study bookshelf, or integrated into a gallery wall display.

Keep the instrument away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting, and gently dust the carved wood frame with a dry lint-free cloth.
