At some stage before 1785 she married the violinist Luigi Tonelli, a noted virtuoso. Her works are relatively scarce and are still being discovered having been much overlooked by the pastel portraits of her teacher Hugh Douglas Hamilton whose work in some instances is closely similar.

Early in her career, she painted portraits of Henry Blundell and Edward Clive, Earl of Powis, eldest son of “Clive of India”. She came to the attention of Lord Clive during his travels in Italy; he had also employed the respected Irish artist Hugh Douglas Hamilton to make pastels of members of his family, and around this time she is noted in the press as a pupil of Hamilton. From 1794 she lived in London, where she taught the Clive children in drawing and exhibited twice at the Royal Academy in 1794 and 1797. From 1798 to 1801, she accompanied the Clive family on a trip to India, where she worked primarily in watercolors, afterwhich she returned to Italy and her family.

Still emerging from the shadows her pastels are starting to get the recognition they deserve. The portrait presented here in it's original frame is one of striking clarity and firm good colour and is comparable in quality those by Tonelli drawn in the mid 1790s that were once with Lord Harlech at Glyn Cywarch.
Her work is included in public museum collections including the British Museum, London, the Holburne Museum, Bath and the National Gallery of Art, USA.
