This pair of nineteenth century Neoclassical tazzas originates from the grand Regency period. Each piece consists of a circular bronze bowl featuring a chased silver-plated rim above fluted decoration, supported by three detailed silvered lion monopodia legs ending in carved paws. The bowls rest on shaped red marble plinths. The contrast of the polished gold-toned bronze, bright silver, and deep red marble creates a striking visual effect. These ornamental tazzas function effectively as decorative accent pieces in a formal setting. Placed upon a sideboard top, console table, or mantelpiece, they add classic architectural interest to a traditional or eclectic interior scheme. Their compact footprint allows them to fit comfortably on narrow surfaces while commanding visual attention through their sculptural quality and mixed-metal palette.

A tazza is a shallow, saucer-like dish mounted on a stem or short feet, originating in antiquity and popularized during the Renaissance. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, tazzas were produced across Europe as decorative centrepieces, salt cellars, or ornamental display vessels influenced by Classical Greek and Roman forms.

Neoclassical decorative objects commonly utilise cast bronze, brass, and silver-plated metal alloys, often finished with fire-gilding or electroplating. These metal structures were frequently mounted on stone bases, such as marble, porphyry, or alabaster, to provide stability and visual contrast.

Authentic period pieces display crisp casting details with evidence of hand-chasing around ornate motifs like lion masks. Look for threaded iron rods securing the metal components beneath the marble base, natural oxidisation in low-relief areas, and authentic wear patterns to silver or gold plating where handled.

Classical tazzas serve as striking focal accents when styled symmetrically on a modern sideboard, fireplace mantle, or dining table. Placing them alongside understated, minimalist textures creates a layered contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary interior design.

Remove loose dust regularly using a soft horsehair brush or microfibre cloth. Avoid chemical polishes or abrasive dips on silvered or gilded surfaces, as these strip fragile metal platings; marble bases should be wiped only with a damp cloth and kept free from acidic liquid exposure.
