FAQs

Mid-Victorian writing desks typically feature rich flame mahogany veneers, functional frieze drawers, reeded or turned legs, and raised gallery edges designed for 19th-century study spaces.

High-grade solid mahogany and mahogany veneers were preferred, often fitted with hand-dovetailed drawers, brass handles, and castors for mobility.

Look for hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, makers stamps or brass plates, original brass castors, and characteristic natural patination on the mahogany timber.

Position the desk in a home office or living room corner paired with a contemporary task chair or a traditional leather armchair to create a functional workspace.

Clean the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
