This nineteenth-century Victorian country house preserve pan is formed from heavy-gauge warm copper with a hand-hammered body, a rolled rim, and twin riveted brass loop handles. Visible details include surface dents, varied patination, and timeworn signs of use that show its kitchen history. The pan measures 35 cm in diameter, extending to 43 cm across the handles, with a height ranging from 12 cm to 17 cm. Position this substantial rustic farmhouse piece on a kitchen island for display or practical kitchen storage. The warm copper tones and traditional brass hardware suit both traditional and contemporary interiors, where it functions effectively as an accent vessel or utility container.

During the 19th century, solid copper preserve pans were used primarily for boiling fruit and sugar to make jams and preserves. Unlined copper was preferred for confectionary work because it distributes heat rapidly and evenly, preventing hot spots and scorching.

Traditional preserve pans were crafted from heavy-gauge unlined copper, often hand-hammered to shape, and fitted with robust cast brass or bronze loop handles secured with heavy copper rivets.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-riveted handles, dovetail joints or hand-hammered construction marks, substantial weight, and natural wear or minor surface variations from historic use.

An antique copper pan makes an ideal focal point on a kitchen island, dresser, or open shelving, serving as a rustic container for fresh fruit, firewood, or seasonal floral displays.

To retain the bright finish, copper can be cleaned with specialised copper polish and a soft cloth, or left untreated to allow a deep, natural patina to develop over time. Avoid harsh chemical abrasive pads that can scratch the metal.
