Antique Khamseh Large Rug Carpet Size. 302cm X 158cm.

19th century
Description

Circa 1880 or last quarter 19th century.

South west persia by possibly the arab ghani,certainly an arab weaving of the khamseh confederation.

Full of tribal symbology with some very gracious recumberant bird motifs at rest almost like swans which I haven't encountered before in this format. Other bird and animal motifs scattered about it.

Good size at nearly 10 foot long. There is low pile with some wear. Ends are good. Some side binding losses. (this could be made good if required)

9 foot 11 inches by 5 foot 2 inches. 302cm X 158cm. At widest points. All wool construction. Fringes not measured in size. Weft threads dyed terracotta as is usual on earlier weavings from south west persia.
