Antique Soumak Rug, Daghestan, Eastern Caucasus.

Description

Although not the oldest Soumak rug, it is rare to find such a small size.

Extremely decorative, it comprises a beautiful terracotta ground with stylised birds depicted in green and surrounded by small stylised animals and birds. The main, blue border is absolutely stunning with what again, appears to depict zoomorphic 'birds' clearly defined.

Woven in the Daghestan region of the eastern Caucaus, this is a great soumak rug in excellent condition.

Size: 1.70 x 1.56m (5' 7" x 5' 2").
