Charming Early 19th-Century Oak Country House Dresser with Plate Rack

This charming early 19th-century oak kitchen dresser, circa 1820, is a beautiful example of English country house furniture, combining generous storage with real visual presence. Crafted in solid oak with a rich golden tone, it displays a lovely grain and superb patina throughout.

The original boarded plate rack features three horizontal shelves with raised lips to securely hold plates, framed by a moulded cornice and straight frieze. The upper section offers open shelving flanked by small enclosed cupboards to either side of the central shelves, with rounded side columns and panelled ends adding to its country elegance.

The base provides excellent, practical storage: a total of six drawers, two top drawers above four graduated central drawers, flanked by a cupboard to each side, again with rounded side columns and panelled ends. All drawers are fitted with brass handles, which are later sympathetic replacements.

Retaining its original back and floorboards and standing on its original breakfront plinth base, this dresser boasts an outstanding, untouched colour and patina. The moulded, panelled oak sides with traditional pinned construction reflect the quality Georgian craftsmanship of the period.

Equally at home in a classic country kitchen or a more contemporary interior, this large dresser is a true eye catcher thanks to its impressive proportions, beautiful tones and characterful surface.
